Core Principles As An Employer... Dr. Gene DiStasio Scholarship Fund

Our Core Principles Back To Top

Our Mission is to help clients protect and grow their assets by providing professional advice and superior products.

Our Vision is to make Elliot Whittier a great home for our clients and a great place to work, while building a growing and profitable business.

We believe that, to be successful, we must be guided by our Core Principles and we take great care to recruit and develop people who have these same beliefs:

  • We believe that our employees are the foundation of our success. We possess personal and professional integrity. We respect each other and attempt to set our personal objectives aside, in favor of shared goals and objectives. We are a team.
  • We believe that our relationships with clients are of paramount importance and we demonstrate that by placing their needs above our own, giving prompt and courteous replies, being good listeners, and quickly acknowledging and rectifying mistakes.
  • We strive to consistently show respect for all company representatives by our open and honest interactions, always trying to achieve common goals and objectives, particularly as it relates to the thoroughness and quality of our submissions and all other transactions.
  • We try to achieve the highest levels of professionalism and excellence with every transaction and interaction through our commitment to continuing education, manifested by earning industry designations.
  • We encourage and expect staff to have the ability to recognize one’s own strengths and weaknesses and to share the strengths and weaknesses of others in a constructive and professional manner.
  • And most important of all -- we constantly challenge ourselves to ensure that we behave in a manner consistent with these stated core principles.

As an Employer Back To Top

We believe that if we treat our employees well they will do the same for our clients. We manifest this by fostering a friendly workplace where communication and mutual respect are practiced. Employee performance is measured, at least annually, against our stated Core Principles.

We consider ourselves a Family Friendly business. We acknowledge that the demands of the job sometimes take a backseat to the needs of the family. Some of our people work a flexible schedule sometimes bringing work home.

We attempt to hire people with good attitudes and a solid educational foundation. We look for people who are compatible with our environment and willing to pursue an insurance education that leads to licensing and a professional designation. Of our 20 employees, 15 have Insurance licenses and 10 have professional designations. At Elliot Whittier, we consider continuing education to be important to career development.

We prefer to have a multigenerational/multicultural workforce where experienced staff will mentor newer staff. We want our staff to reflect the demographics of our market.

We are committed to providing employees with the tools and authority they need to get the job done for the client. This translates to providing you with up-to-date computers, monitors, printers and scanners comfortably situated in a well lighted and roomy workspace.

We pride ourselves on being open to your suggestions and ideas so that we can do a better job for you and our clients. We strongly encourage our staff to share thoughts and concerns and we can assure you that Management listens. Ask anyone who knows us!

Dr. Gene DiStasio Scholarship Fund Back To Top

Elliot Whittier has adopted this scholarship fund to assure that a grant of $500 may be awarded annually to a graduating Senior from Winthrop High School in perpetuity. The scholarship was established in 1998, from proceeds of the Oceanside Big Band & Jazz Fest, in loving memory of jazz trombonist and Winthrop Orthodontist, Dr. Gene DiStasio.

Dr. Gene encouraged Paul Roy, a principal at Elliot Whittier to produce the first free outdoor concert at Hannaford Park in Winthrop in 1994. Gene played trombone for the Kenny Hadley Big Band that year. He died in 1995.

The recipient is selected by the scholarship committee at the High School with the advice of the Band Parents.

Past recipients include:
  Michael Caaman 2001
  Kristin Quinn 2002
  Steven Goldberg 2003
  Kerri MacDougal 2004
  Kristina Lessard 2005
  Sadekshya Nepal 2006
