Hurricane Preparedness Step 6 - Get A Plan!

As part of Hurricane Preparedness Week, we're sharing a 7 step guide so that you, your family, your property, and your business can be best prepared for the 2013 Hurricane Season.

Hurricane Preparedness Week 2013

June 1st is the official start of the hurricane season.  Do you know what to do if a hurricane watch is ordered for your community?  Now is the time to be prepared!

In previous articles, we shared the overview of the hurricane, the perils of wind, flooding, and storm surge, as well as how hurricanes are forecasted, all courtesy of the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida.

FEMA has produced a list of items one should prepare having at the ready in the event of an emergency.  Some of those items are:

  • Prescription medications and glasses
  • infant formula and diapers
  • pet food and extra water for your pet
  • important family documents such as insurance policies, identification, bank records
  • cash ...

This is a partial list.  You can access the FEMA pamphlet here.
