Everyone is touched by cancer in some way, either knowing someone who lost the battle, or, someone who is fighting right now. This event was a special way the community could get together, in a beautiful setting, to remember Marie and others.
The Marie C. Petrilli Cancer Research & Treatment Memorial Fund was founded in 1999 by Al Petrilli and his brother David in honor of Al's wife Marie, who was a young wife and mother of 2 young children, Albert & Marielle. Marie was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for 16 months, and lost her battle on 6/19/1999.
According to their website, the fund has been able to award 33 MGH oncology nurse student scholarships, has given grants to renovate cancer patient lounges as well as funding for research. The largest contributions have been to those daily personal requests from cancer patients, family, social workers and other support groups such as Survivors by the Sea.
If you would like to donate, please see the Marie C. Petrilli website.
